What’s the story?
If we trace back our minds to the year that went by, we will surely remember that Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard had gone on a date with a random tweeter after she lost a bet during last year's Super Bowl when the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons. It’s not over yet as both of them will together attend Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis on February 4.
In case you didn’t know...
Incidentally, John Goehrke, a University of Missouri student, had suggested Bouchard on Twitter that they should go for a date if Patriots would win last year's Super Bowl. This he did at a time when the Patriots were trailing the Atlanta Falcons 28-3. Bouchard agreed and then lost the bet as the Patriots made a comeback to win the Super Bowl.
Bouchard kept her promise and the duo was spotted a few weeks later courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game.
Later in December they again caught up and Bouchard herself posted pictures of her date on her social media profiles.
The heart of the matter
Now the tennis star and Goehrke have been invited to attend Super Bowl LII in Minnesota, where the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the New England Patriots.
Bouchard, who lost in the second round of the Australian Open last week, having accepted the invitation asked Goehrke whether he was ready for another meetup. The tweeter was delighted to come onboard again.
What’s next?
As per the plan, Bouchard and Goehrke will meet up again at Super Bowl 52 on February 4.
Author’s take
This is an unusual relationship between a celebrity and a common man. However, both enjoy each other’s company and a connection which was established via a bet has given the duo a chance to meet up occasionally.
