The third day of main draw action at the 2023 Chile Open in Santiago on Wednesday (March 1) will feature four second-round matches.
On Tuesday, the likes of Thiago Monteiro, Roberto Carballes Baena, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Dusan Lajovic emerged victorious, respectively beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Carlos Taberner, Fabio Fognini and Camilo Ugo Carabelli.
So without further ado, here's a look at how the four second-round matches could pan out at the ATP 250 Chile Open:
#1 Yannick Hanfmann vs Roberto Carballes Baena
Qualifier Yannick Hanfmann will take on Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena on Wednesday for a place in the Chile Open quarterfinals.
The 153rd-ranked Hanfmann, who dropped only seven games in two qualifying rounds, conceded only two games in his opener against Pedro Martinez. In the process, the 31-year-old improved to 1-2 on the season. Meanwhile, World No. 74 Carballes Baena is now 3-5 in 2023 after beating Carlos Taberner in his opener.
The two players haven't met before, but going by form this week, Hanfmann could take this one.
Prediction: Hanfmann in three sets
#2 Lorenzo Musetti (Chile Open top seed) vs Jaume Munar
Top seed Lorenzo Musetti will open his campaign at the Chile Open against Spaniard Jaume Munar.
The 18th-ranked Musetti is 5-4 in 2023, reaching the inaugural United Cup finals and the Argentina Open quarterfinals. Meanwhile, World No. 66 Jaume Munar has won only two of his seven matches this year.
Musetti is expected to take this first-time matchup.
Prediction: Musetti in straight sets
#3 Diego Schwartzman vs Nicolas Jarry
Fourth seed Diego Schwartzman will open his Chile Open campaign against Nicolas Jarry.
The World No. 37 Schwartzman has had a tough start to the season, winning only one of his six matches. He's coming off opening-round exits in Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, the 87th-ranked Jarry improved to 6-2 on the season after winning his opener.
Schwartzman has taken all four of his previous meetings with Jarry, but considering the Argentine's poor recent form, Jarry could take this one.
Prediction: Jarry in straight sets
#4 Marco Cecchinato vs Thiago Monteiro
Marco Cecchinato will take on Thiago Monteiro for a place in the last eight in Santiago.
The 91st-ranked Cecchinato is 3-2 on the season, while World No. 84 Monteiro improved to 3-7 in 2023 after beating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in his opener.
The two players haven't met before, but expect Monteiro to take this one.
Prediction: Monteiro in three sets
