Amanda Anisimova vs Camila Osorio preview
After a first-round bye, Amanda Anisimova will square off against Camila Osorio in the second round of the China Open 2024.
Anisimova's comeback started rather well as she made the fourth round of the Australian Open, where she lost to defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. She missed the season's first four WTA 1000 events and didn't win a match at the Madrid Open and the Italian upon her return.
Anisimova reached the second round of the French Open and lost in the final round of qualifying at Wimbledon. She reached the biggest final of her career at the Canadian Open and put up a fight against Jessica Pegula but lost to her in three sets.
The American pulled out of the Cincinnati Open after that and was eliminated in the first round of the US Open by Zheng Qinwen. She competed in last week's Korea Open and retired from her second-round match against Viktoriya Tomova due to an injury in the second set.
Osorio was up against Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round of the China Open. She lost the first set quite tamely, and could only muster a lone game for herself in it. The Colombian went down a break in the second set to fall behind 2-0.
However, not only did Osorio get back on serve, but she also nabbed the last four games of the set to take it. The final set played out similarly. She went down to break to trail 3-2 and then reeled off the next four games for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 comeback win.

Amanda Anisimova vs Camila Osorio prediction
Osorio was on the backfoot quite often but her doggedness saw her fend off a tough challenge from Tomljanovic in the first round. She won 56 percent of her first serve points, and while she dropped her serve on six occasions, she also broke back six times en route to her victory.
Anisimova has won only one match since her run to the final of the Canadian Open. Her mid-match retirement in Seoul last week was concerning as well. If she's still not fully fit, then Osorio, one of the most energetic players on the tour, could run circles around her.
Anisimova did win their only prior encounter over five years ago, albeit on clay. Her offensive brand of tennis trumped Osorio's defensive ways, and if she's back to her best, the outcome could be the same again.
Pick: Amanda Anisimova to win in three sets.
