Zheng Qinwen vs Mirra Andreeva preview
Fifth seed Zheng Qinwen will take on teen star Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals of the China Open 2024.
Zheng kicked off her run in Beijing with a 6-1, 6-1 beatdown of Kamila Rakhimova. She beat Nadia Podoroska 6-3, 6-2 to book a fourth-round date with Amanda Anisimova.
Although both players pushed each other on their service games, Anisimova eventually gained the upper hand. She nabbed the last three games of the first set to take it. Zheng quickly regrouped and clinched the second set for the loss of only one game.
The pair broke each other's serve to start the third set, after which Zheng swept the next four games to go 5-1 up. Anisimova held serve to make it 5-2 and put the onus of serving out the match on her opponent. The Chinese let go of three match points and saved three break points before wrapping up a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.
Andreeva rallied from a set down twice to defeat Irina Camelia-Begu and Donna Vekic to reach the fourth round, where Magda Linette awaited her. The teenager raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, only to drop the ball when she tried to close out the set.
The break of serve gave Linette a brief respite. However, Andreeva broke back immediately to claim the set. The Russian overcame a break deficit to go 3-1 up in the second set but squandered her advantage. However, she snagged another break to put herself in the lead and remained in front until the end to secure a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Zheng Qinwen vs Mirra Andreeva prediction
Andreeva's first straight sets win of the week was anything but routine despite the scoreline. Zheng, on the other hand, was pushed to three sets for the first time in Beijing but survived a late charge from Anisimova to get over the finish line.
Zheng's serve will give her a slight edge in this contest. However, Andreeva is a pretty capable returner herself. The teenager lacks the firepower in her shots compared to her rival, though she's more than capable of hanging in the rallies with her incredible defense.
Zheng has a 19-4 record on hardcourts against players ranked outside the top 20, while Andreeva has a 2-1 record against top 10 opposition on the surface. Both are now gunning to reach their maiden WTA 1000 semifinal. The Chinese has slightly better odds of doing so given her recent results, along with the support of the home crowd.
Pick: Zheng Qinwen to win in three sets.
