Jelena Ostapenko vs Elina Avanesyan preview
The second round of the 2024 Cincinnati Open will pit Jelena Ostapenko against Elina Avanesyan in an exciting encounter.
Ostapenko, the eighth seed at this year’s tournament, is playing in her second tournament of the US Open series. The Latvian fought her way past in the Toronto opener but came a cropper against Taylor Townsend.
Having received a bye in the opening round here, Ostapenko now comes into the contest with a 29-14 win-loss for the season.
Avanesyan, meanwhile, has made the best of her second opportunity. She was awarded a lucky loser entry into the main draw after she fell at the final step against Harriet Dart.
Pitted against Bianca Andreescu in the opening round, she turned in a brilliant performance to oust the former US Open champ in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. With the victory, the Armenian’s win-loss improved to 23-16.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Elina Avanesyan prediction
Jelena Ostapenko employs a gung-ho brand of tennis and likes to go after each ball. She will enter this contest looking to be the aggressor.
That said, Elina Avanesyan has the game needed to neutralize power as she showcased in her opening match against Bianca Andreescu. The Armenian’s topspin-heavy forehand works wonders against the big ball-strikers as she can frustrate her opponents by sending back that one extra ball in each rally.
Against Ostapenko, however, she will need to be extra careful on serve. The Latvian has been winning an incredible 60% of the points on second-serve return all season.
The contest will pit Ostapenko’s raw power against Avanesyan’s measured baseline game. The Latvian will need to play the patient game or she risks facing another early exit.
Prediction: Avanesyan to win in three sets
