Emma Raducanu vs Paula Badosa preview

Emma Raducanu will take on former World No. 2 Paula Badosa for a place in the semifinals of the 2024 Mubadala Citi DC Open on Friday (August 2).
Raducanu has enjoyed a respectable comeback from wrist and ankle surgeries on the WTA Tour this year. The Brit has won 18 of her 28 competitive matches; including reaching the Round of 16 at Wimbledon and the semifinals of the Eastbourne International.
The 21-year-old began her campaign at this week's 500-level event in Washington D.C. in style. She upset eighth-seeded Elise Mertens in the first round, before beating local favorite Peyton Stearns to reach the last eight.
Badosa, meanwhile, is also on a comeback trail in 2024. The Spaniard suffered from a stress fracture in her back last season. However, the 26-year-old has made plenty of amends this year, making it to the second week of Wimbledon and the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open.
The former World No. 2 defeated 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in her opener at the Citi Open. She then received safe passage into the last eight after her third-seeded opponent Liudmila Samsonova retired from their match at 2-6 down.

Emma Raducanu vs Paula Badosa prediction

Raducanu is one of the most aggressive players in the women's game. The 2021 US Open champion has a quick-strike approach from the baseline, making good use of her racket-head acceleration to hit winners past her opponents. That said, this makes her prone to errors as well since the margin on her groundstrokes is low.
Badosa is more of a grinder compared to Raducanu, but she does possess weighty and dependable strokes. The Spaniard also has good shot tolerance and a consistent first serve.
While the British youngster is the more in-form player at the moment, her older opponent has much more experience than her. Considering the stakes and the contrasting nature of this match-up, Badosa is the slight favorite to come through.
Pick: Badosa in three sets.
