Coco Gauff vs Jodie Burrage preview
World No. 3 Coco Gauff will face Great Britain's Jodie Burrage in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open on Wednesday, 15 January. The 2023 US Open champion, Gauff, has been in sublime form lately, having won eight consecutive matches and 14 consecutive sets.
The American's last loss was in the Round-Robin of the WTA Finals (against Barbora Krejcikova), but Gauff still reached the semifinal and defeated World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Qinwen Zheng to win the title.
The 20-year-old won all her matches at the United Cup 2025 without dropping a set, including beating World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the final. In the first round of the 2025 Australian Open, Gauff knocked out the 2020 Australian Open champion and compatriot, Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Jodie Burrage defeated the French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean 6-2, 6-4 in the first round at Melbourne Park. The 25-year-old started the 2025 season in Auckland, where she lost in the second round of qualifying, but entered the main draw as the lucky loser.
She defeated the wildcard, Vivian Yang in the first round, before losing to World No. 68 Hailey Baptiste. The Brit also entered the qualifying draw at Adelaide, where she lost to Leylah Fernandez 3-6, 6-7(2).
Burrage reached the second round at the Australian Open after defeating Leolia Jeanjean on Monday.

Coco Gauff vs Jodie Burrage prediction
Besides her impressive run of results lately, Coco Gauff also boasts an impressive record at Melbourne Park. She has won 13 out of 18 matches at the venue so far.
Last year Gauff was beaten in the semifinal by the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-7(2), 4-6. With this year's projected draw setting them up for a potential semifinal clash once again, the American would be looking to go deep and defeat the Belarusian this time around.
Meanwhile, Coco Gauff's 2R opponent Jodie Burrage had never won a match in the main draw at the Australian Open before. In her only previous main draw appearance at Melbourne Park last year, she was beaten 6-2, 3-6, 0-6 by Germany's Tamara Korpatsch.
The Brit has won only two matches at the Grand Slams in five main draw appearances since 2021. She remained sidelined due to injuries mostly last season, and hence, going into this matchup, Burrage will need to play out of her skin to get any sort of result against her impressive American opponent.
Pick: Coco Gauff to win in straight sets
