In the first round, Gauff outplayed the 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-3 and folliwed it up with another straight-set win over Jodie Burrage, triumphing 6-3, 7-5.
On the other hand, her Canadian opponent, Leylah Fernandez played two tough sets against Ukraine's Yuliia Starodubtseva in the first round of the Australian Open, as as she won 7-5, 6-4.
23-year-old Fernandez's second round clash was even tougher, as she dropped the first set 3-6 against Spain's Cristina Bucsa, but made a comeback to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.

Coco Gauff vs Leylah Fernandez prediction
2023 US Open champion Gauff will start the match as clear favorite, as she has won last 16 sets, a streak which started in the final of the WTA Finals.
She reached the semifinal at the 2024 Australian Open, where she was beaten by the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka, and she would be seeking a revenge against the World No. 1, as they could meet in the last four round once again.
Meanwhile, Fernandez has reached the third round at the Australian Open for the first time. The Canadian, who reached the final of the 2021 US Open, had won only two matches in her previous five appearances at the Melbourne Park.
Fernandez had not won a set, even when they met in the semifinal of the 2018 French Open Girls' Singles event, so even if she takes a set, it can be a big boost for her.
Pick: Gauff to win in straight sets
