Daria Kasatkina, the Russian tennis star, is ranked No. 9 by WTA, as of December 2024, and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 8 in October 2022. Kasatkina's best Grand Slam performance came during the 2022 French Open, where she lost the semifinal to the former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. She has won eight singles titles on the WTA circuit as of December 2024, including the 2024 Eastbourne Open against Leylah Fernandez. Kasatkina also won the 2024 Ningbo Open, where she defeated compatriot Mirra Andreeva 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. She lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final of the 2024 Korea Open.

Kasatkina came to prominence after finishing as runner-up at the 2018 Indian Wells against Naomi Osaka. She later led the Russian team to victory at the 2020-21 Fed Cup. In the junior circuit, she won a silver medal at the 2014 Nanjing Games in the girl's doubles category.

Flavio Cipolla is Daria Kasatkina’s coach. He is a former professional player from Italy with a career-high ranking of No. 70, which he achieved on April 23, 2012. Cipolla registered his best Grand Slam performance at the 2008 US Open, where he reached the round of 32 (lost to Stan Wawrinka). He started training Kasatkina in February 2023 after she parted ways with her longtime coach, Carlos Martinez. Besides Kasatkina, Cipolla also coaches Gianluca Mager.

In a couples vlog in 2023 (via WTA), Kasatkina, while talking about her preference, said, "It’s better to do it at the end of the season, before pre-season, or when there is at least some kind of training bloc, so you can get to know each other. There are different situations, unplanned, like this, that’s hard, but whatever is done for the best.” Kasatkina, under the guidance and training of her previous coach, Carlos Martinez, won four WTA titles. The duo had been working together since June 2019. The news of Martinez and Kasatkina's split was shared by Kasatkina's girlfriend, Natalia Zabiiako, during her vlog.

In an interview with Ubi Tennis, Martinez said, “There are some reasons (why we have stopped working together). It is not about tennis but it is about other priorities that I have and I have some principles that I want to follow. We have a different points of view about things and it is better that we do it like this.” Martinez has previously coached Marc Lopez, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Feliciano Lopez, and Kateryna Kozlova. He also runs his tennis academy, the CMC Competition, which is located 20km outside of Barcelona.

Before Martinez, Kasatkina worked with the Belgian coach, Philippe Dehaes. She started working with Dehaes in late 2017, with whom she also worked in 2013 while searching for funding. The duo announced their split in 2019. Kasatkina started her tennis journey with coach Maxim Prasolov. She later switched to Damir Rishatovich Nurgaliev when she turned 14. At the beginning of 2015, Kasatkina moved to Trnava, where she started working alongside former Slovakian tennis player Vladimir Platenik.
