Daria Kasatkina is a professional tennis player from Russia. She achieved her career-high singles ranking of No. 8 in October 2022. She has won eight singles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour as of December 2024. She began playing tennis at the age of six with her brother. She is a former world No. 3 junior who won the junior French Open and the European 16s championship. She turned professional in 2014 and made her grand slam debut at the US Open in 2015, where she reached the third round. She won her first WTA singles title at the Charleston Open in 2017. She defeated Jelena Ostapenko in the final.

Kasatkina advanced to the French Open semifinals in 2022, which, as of December 2024, was her highest Grand Slam result to date. She lost in straight sets to Polish ace Iga Swiatek. In 2024, after making back-to-back third-round appearances in Beijing and Wuhan, Kasatkina defeated Mirra Andreeva in three sets to earn her eighth career championship and second of the year at the 2024 Ningbo Open. She defeated Leylah Fernandez to win the 2024 Eastbourne International earlier in June.

Two months later, she took part in the World Group playoff match against Belarus and competed in three rubbers because Ekaterina Makarova and Svetlana Kuznetsova both chose not to participate in the match. Aliaksandra Sasnovich was defeated in Kasatkina's first live rubber, but Russia lost the remaining three singles rubbers.

During the zonal tournaments in 2019, Kasatkina represented Russia and defeated Karen Barritza in straight sets in her only match of the week. In the end, Russia earned a spot in the World Group II playoffs. She rejoined the team in time for the 2020–21 Billie Jean King Cup Finals when she was selected as the second-ranked Russian player for the national team. She defeated Carol Zhao in the matches she was nominated for, winning 3-0 overall in the group stages. In the final, Kasatkina defeated Jil Teichmann and helped Russia win its first Fed Cup championship since 2008.

Tolyatti is a well-known industrial city in Russia's Samara Oblast, which is located about 620 miles southeast of the busy capital, Moscow. The Volga Automotive Plant (VAP), which influences Russia's industrial landscape, is located in this city, which is noteworthy for that reason. Further, Kasatkina's father, Sergey, worked as an engineer at VAP.
