David Ferrer is one of the most respected guys on the ATP tour. Fellow tennis players always say nice things about the usually shy and well spoken Spaniard who is pretty much everyone’s favorite in the locker room.
So it came as a bit of a surprise when Ferrer displayed some shockingly bad behaviour during his QF loss to Tomas Berdych when he shoved a linesman aside.
It is simply not Ferrer’s job to put the towel back on the chair. The ballboys are there to do that. This act by Ferrer was out of sheer frustration and reeked of disrespect to the linesman.
This, however, is not the first time that Ferrer has done something like this on a tennis court. At the US Open in 2012, Ferrer did exactly the same thing during a 3rd Round match against Lleyton Hewitt.
There have been a couple of other instances as well during which Ferrer has lost his composure on the court.
While Ferrer is generally well behaved and respectful towards everyone, today’s episode was a clear departure from that and deserves a fine from the authorities.
