Italy vs Netherlands preview
Italy and Netherlands will lock horns in the final of the 2024 Davis Cup on November 24, 2024. The two teams were drawn in the same group in the tournament, with the Italians winning 2-1 at the time.
Italy started their knockouts strongly with a 2-1 win over Argentina in the quarterfinals. They then faced Australia in the semifinals, in what was a rematch of last year's final. Matteo Berrettini gave the Italians the lead after beating Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-7(6), 6-3, 7-5.
Jannik Sinner then sealed the tie for Italy with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur, to guide the reigning champions to a second successive Davis Cup final.
The Netherlands faced Spain in the quarterfinals, in what turned to be the last match of Rafael Nadal's career, and won 2-1. They then faced Germany in the semifinals and took the lead after Botic van de Zandschulp defeated Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-7(12), 6-3.
Tallon Griekspoor then faced Jan-Lennard Struff and the latter took the lead by taking the first set. However, the Dutchman bounced back to win the match 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-4 and seal Netherlands' place in the Davis Cup final for the very first time.
#1 Matteo Berrettini vs Botic van de Zandschulp
While there is a fair chance of Lorenzo Musetti playing the first match of the tie, Matteo Berrettini could be preferred after his semifinal heroics over Kokkinakis, especially since Netherlands could probably send in Botic van de Zandschulp.
The 2021 Wimbledon champion has won all of his previous encounters against Van de Zandschulp and has produced some promising performances this season that fetched him three titles and a way back to the Top 40 of the ATP rankings. Berrettini's most recent notable performance was reaching the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
Botic van de Zandschulp will be high on confidence after his wins over Rafael Nadal and Daniel Altmaier. While the Dutchman's performances throughout the ATP have been far from impressive (18-27 win/loss record), he has been a key player for them during the Davis Cup and will be crucial for them in the final considering Jannik Sinner could play the other match.
#2 Jannik Sinner vs Tallon Griekspoor
Jannik Sinner has been in the form of his life this season and there is little chance he will not be used in the final. The World No. 1 has won 72 out of 78 matches so far in 2024, winning eight titles, that include two Grand Slams and more recently, the ATP Finals.
Tallon Griekspoor has won 33 out of 62 matches so far this season, reaching a few semifinals, most notably at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. The Dutchman will have to be at his absolute best if he is to stand a chance of defeating Jannik Sinner.
The Italian has won all of his four previous encounters against Tallon Griekspoor.

Italy vs Netherlands prediction
Italy will enter the tie as the heavy favorite to win given that they have a superior singles squad, not to forget they have two doubles players ranked in the top 15. That said, Netherlands' best hope will be to push the tie to a doubles decider, which is where Wesley Koolhof will have to be come clutch for them.
A lot will also depend on the singles tie not featuring Jannik Sinner as that could be Netherlands' best chance to win. That said, given the resources Italy have, it seems hard to rule out the possibility of them winning.
Pick: Italy to win 2-0.
