Samantha Stosur of Australia returns a shot against Petra Martic of Croatia during Day One of the 2012 US Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Stosur advanced to the second round with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Martic.

Defending champion Samantha Stosur of Australia advanced to the second round of the US Open on Monday with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Croatian Petra Martic.
Stosur needed only 51 minutes to move on and will next face the winner of a later match between qualifiers Edina Gallovits-Hall of Romania and Swiss Stefanie Voegele.
