Vienna - Indian tennis player Somdev Devvarman lost in straight sets in the first round of the men’s singles event here at the Erste Bank Open.
Devvarman, who is trying to make a comeback from a shoulder injury, went down to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-7(6), 3-6 in one hour and 43 minutes Wednesday.
This was the sixth consecutive first round loss for the 27-year-old, who is ranked 579 in the world. He has lost all singles matches since making a comeback at the London Olympics.
Devvarman achieved a career-best ranking of 62 in 2009.
