No one makes first-round wins at grand slams look quite as effortless as Roger Federer. This was one of the easiest match of the Swiss player. He crushed Albert Ramos by 6-1 6-1 6-1 and it took only 79 minutes.

After loosing in the semis in the French Open earlier this month to Djokovic, he was back in tremendous form today. The 30 year old, Federer last won the Wimbledon title in the year 2009. He has won the Wimbledon 6 times and is looking forward to win again this year to create history and join Pete Sampras and Whillie Renshaw.

It was hardly a surprise that Ramos struggled to compete as Federer broke Ramos eight times while losing his serve once in the first set. After the match the Swiss said in a press conference

“I thought I played a great match’.’Maybe Albert Ramos is not the most experienced grass-court player out there, that’s for sure, but I was able to take advantage of it and I played a very clean match from start to finish.’It’s always nice to save energy, if you want to look further into the draw.’It gives you good confidence as well, being able to close out matches easy.I fought hard to get as many breaks as I could and try to focus on my own service game and things worked out perfectly today.”

In the earlier games, the former Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic and this year’s French Open champion Maria Sharapova also advanced into the second round of the Wimbledons.

Djokovic defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero by 6-3 6-3 6-1 and Sharapova cruised to a victory over Anastasia Rodionova by 6-2 6-3. While Novak Djokovic is looking forward to defend Wimbledon title, Maria Sharapova is looking forward to win back to back two titles.

Last the Serb,Djokovic had defeated Federer in the final on the same tournament and became the first player other than Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer to hold on to the top ranking since Andy Roddick of the U.S. in February 2004.

In the press conference Sharapove said, “Wimbledon is on the line that’s the only way to do it and I’m really happy to be back on Centre Court. It’s always difficult coming into a grand slam with little practice on grass. The first matches are always tricky” she added “I’m happy with the way I played but there’s no doubt I can improve.”

On the same day, five times Wimbledon champion Venus Williams crashed out of the contenst in the very first round while she faced Russia’s Elena Vesnina. Venus did not win a game until the sixth game of the first set and fared little better in the second, going down 1-6, 3-6 to Vesnina, a doubles specialist and ranked 79 in singles.
