Fritz had a fairly successful clay-court season, reaching the fourth round of the French Open. He then won his first two matches at the Cinch Championships at Queen's Club at the start of his grass-court season but lost to Jordan Thompson somewhat unexpectedly in the quarterfinal. Still, the American remains a consistent performer on the ATP Tour. He beat Thiago Seyboth Wild in the second round in Eastbourne after receiving a bye in the first.
Juncheng, on the other hand, has played in several Challenger events this season. He went into the three big clay-court tournaments through qualifiers. Although he managed to win his first match in the main draw at the Madrid Open, he lost in the first round of each of the Italian Open and French Open. However, he upset Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round in Eastbourne.

Fritz is one of the top players in men's tennis. In comparison, Juncheng is far less experienced at the top level. Still, the 19-year-old Chinese can impart enough power in his groundstrokes to surprise the American.
Fritz's serve and forehand are among the best in the business and could prove to be real weapons on grass. However, as Juncheng has shown already in his victory over Ruusuvuori, he can deal with big hitters pretty well.
Still, the young Chinese should find Fritz a bit too difficult to handle. The American should have enough power in his game to win easy points on Thursday. Juncheng will have to play exceptionally well on the day to take a set off Fritz, who remains the odds-on favorite to win the match.
