Svitolina started her 2025 season at the Australian Open, and faced Sorana Cirstea in the first round. The 30-year-old raced to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and eventually won the set 6-4. A solitary break of serve in the ninth game of the second set propeled the Ukrainian to a 6-4, 6-4 win and a place in the second round of the Australian Open.

Elina Svitolina will enter the match as the heavy favorite to win given her experience and superior singles quality.
The Ukrainian was impressive on her first-serve in her Australian Open opener, winning 28 out of 33 points (84.9%). She served two aces but coughed up four double faults, something she will hope not to do against Dolehide, whose serve will not be easy to break. The 30-year-old hit 22 winners compared to 18 unforced errors.
Svitolina is someone who is best known for her defensive skills and consistent groundstrokes. However, the Ukrainian can transition well from defense to offense, which would be a pretty useful strategy against Dolehide.
The American generally has an impressive serve but her first-serve numbers were far from impressive in her opening match at the Australian Open. Dolehide won just 64.9% of points on her first serve and leaked two double faults. She also produced 24 winners while committing 23 unforced errors.
The 26-year-old has an impressive forehand and will look to make the most out of it, along with her serve. She can also force Svitolina to come to the net, which may not be particularly useful for the Ukrainian, given her volleying skills could use some improvement. If Dolehide can return well, she may stand a chance.
