Navarro was cruising through the first set as she raced to a 5-0 lead. However, she failed to serve out the set twice, and wasted a set point as Jabeur mounted a fightback with a four-game run. The American secured another break of serve in the 10th game to take the set.

Kasatkina beat Viktoriya Tomova 6-1, 6-3 in the first round, and followed it up with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Wang Yafan. She was up against 24th seed Yulia Putintseva in the third round.
After a slow start, Kasatkina overcame a 3-0 deficit to clinch the first set. She was on the cusp of victory at 5-0 when Putintseva stopped her from closing out the match with a break of serve. However, the Russian broke back immediately to seal a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
