Former British No. 1 Emma Raducanu is a 22-year-old professional tennis player who turned professional in 2018. Born in Toronto, Canada, Raducanu is ranked as high as No. 10, which she achieved on July 11, 2022. With her commendable performance, she advanced to the finals of many tournaments but failed to win any singles title. Raducanu broke into the top 100 after defeating Maria Sakkari at the 2024 Wimbledon, thus registering her second top-10 win. She finished quarterfinalist at the Eastbourne International and the Stuttgart Open in 2024, losing to Kasatkina and Iga Swiatek, respectively. Raducanu reached her first semifinal of the season at the Nottingham Open, losing to Katie Boulter.

With the win, she became the second player after Bianca Andreescu to win a major title since 2019. She was the first female player from Britain to win a major since Virginia Wade at Wimbledon in 1977.

Raducanu won the grand slam without losing a single set during the entire tournament. She became the fourth female player in the Open Era to win a major as her singles title. Aged 18 at the time of the US Open, she became the youngest champion since Maria Sharapova at the 2004 Wimbledon. She prevailed over Maria Sakkari and Belinda Bencic in the semifinals and quarterfinals to reach the final of the tournament.
