Seventh seed Bernard Tomic will take on second seed Tristan Schoolkate in the semifinals of the Fairfield Challenger.

After a title-winning run in the ITF M25 in Chennai, Tomic reached the semifinals of the Mexico City Challenger, where he lost to Thiago Agustin Tirante in straight sets. He then amassed quarterfinal runs in Bogota, San Domingo, Las Vegas and Charleston but couldn't make his mark in any of the Challenger Series events to enter the last four.

The Australian started his campaign in Fairfield with hard-fought wins over Max Wiskandt and Max Basing in the first two rounds. He then showed his class against Alexis Galarneau in the quarterfinals and defeated the Canadian in a close three-set bout, 7-6(6), 1-6, 7-6(6). Tomic is through to his second semifinal on the ATP Challenger tour this year.

Tristan Schoolkate, meanwhile, has chalked up 31 wins from 53 matches on the ATP Challenger circuit, including a title-winning run in the Guangzhou Challenger. He also reached the quarterfinals in Canberra, New Delhi, Acapulco, Shenzhen, Winnipeg and Lincoln, where he lost to Yunchaokete Bu in straight sets.

The Australian started his campaign in Fairfield by cruising past Bruno Kuzuhara and Alexey Zakharov in the first two rounds. He then outlasted Ethan Quinn in an absorbing three-set bout in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-7(3), 7-6(3). Schoolgate is two wins away from claiming his second title on the ATP Challenger tour this year.

After losing in his last four quarterfinals on tour, Bernard Tomic has finally entered the semifinals in Fairfield. He struggled to break Quinn's serves throughout the match but held his nerve to win two grueling tie-breakers. The Australian would need to find more solutions against a player like Schoolkate in the next round.

Apart from a decent season on the ATP Challenger Tour, Schoolkate also reached the second round of the US Open. He edged past Taro Daniel in the first round, but couldn't make his mark against Jakub Mensik in the second. The 23-year-old is constantly improving his game and will be poised to make a significant impact on the main tour. He won 72% of his first serve points in the last match and fired five aces against Quinn.

Schoolkate will be a slight favorite to come out on top, but Tomic has shown resilience when it mattered the most. He's won five tie-breakers in Fairfield so far and will hope to continue this knack in the next round. If Tomic plays a positive brand of tennis and backs his ability on the court, he could have a say in this. However, it is most likely that Schoolkate would exploit the Australian's weaknesses and step foot in the finals of the Fairfield Challenger.

Pick: Schoolkate to win in three sets.
