Frances Tiafoe vs Fabian Marozsan preview
17th-seed Frances Tiafoe is slated to face Fabian Marozsan of Hungary in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open.
The American player had a difficult start to the 2025 season. At the Brisbane International, the American lost in the second round to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7 (4), 4-6.
At the Australian Open, Tiafoe had to win a five-set battle against Arthur Rinderknech in the first round, with the scoreline being 7-6 (4), 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-3. The Frenchman hit 33 aces and had an 84 percent win rate on first serve which posed a serious threat to the 17th seed. However, the experienced American was able to capture 5 of the 10 break point opportunities he received, especially grabbing the break point in the final set.
Fabian Marozsan, on the other hand, had a decent start to the 2025 season, reaching the quarterfinal of the Hong Kong Open. He won against Roman Safiullin and the top seed Andrey Rublev to reach the last eight. The 25-year-old eventually lost 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 to Juncheng Shang.
At Melbourne, the Hungarian endured a five-set thriller against Brazil's Thiago Seyboth Wild, winning 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Marozsan was in great hitting form, as he hit 20 aces. He hit 81 winners in five sets and played aggressive tennis which helped him generate 16 break-point opportunities. He was able to get the benefit of that, eventually breaking his opponent four times.

Frances Tiafoe vs Fabian Marozsan prediction
Tiafoe has a very modest 10-8 record at the Australian Open. His best run was a quarterfinal finish in 2019. Overall, the American player has reached four hard-court finals, winning one title. His only title on the surface came at the 2018 Delray Beach Open, winning 6-1, 6-4 against Peter Gojowczyk in the final.
Meanwhile, this is the second time that Marozsan is playing at the Australian Open, having experienced a third-round finish last year. He has yet to win any title on the Tour but has won three hard-court titles on the Challenger Tour.
The experience of playing on the big stage and being the higher seed will give Tiafoe an advantage in the upcoming match.
