Casper Ruud vs Felipe Meligeni Alves preview
Seventh seed Casper Ruud faces qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves in the first round of the 2024 French Open on Tuesday.
Ruud commenced his clay swing with a semifinal appearance at the Estoril Open, where he was the defending champion. As he failed to defend his title, it marked a year since he last laid his hands on a winner's trophy. He made the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters the next week, going down to Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.
The two met a week later in the final of the Barcelona Open as well. Ruud came out on top to claim his first title above the ATP 250 level and his first of the year. He was eliminated earlier than expected at the Madrid Open, though, losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round.
Ruud's string of good results came to an end at the Italian Open, as he was knocked out by Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round. He got back on track by winning his second title of the season at last week's Geneva Open.
Meanwhile, Meligeni Alves' only main draw appearance this year before the French Open was at the Rio Open, where he reached the second round. He competed in the qualifying rounds of the claycourt Major, beating Nerman Fatic, Zdenek Kolar and Jaime Faria to book his place in the main draw for the first time.

Casper Ruud vs Felipe Meligeni Alves prediction
Ruud has been one of the most in-form players this year and has played at a higher level compared to last year. Having won 37 matches last year, he has racked up 35 wins this year, with another six months left.
Ruud appeared to have peaked too early, as his results took a hit halfway through the clay swing. However, he rediscovered his form with a title-winning run at the Geneva Open. Having reached the final of the French Open the last two years, he will hope that third time's the charm.
Meanwhile, Meligeni Alves made it through the qualifying rounds without losing a set and dropped his serve only once across three matches. While he's a competent player on clay, considering Ruud's current level, the Brazilian's odds of making it a competitive match are quite slim.
Pick: Casper Ruud to win in straight sets
