Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Yoshihito Nishioka preview
21st seed Felix Auger-Aliassime will face unseeded Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the 2024 French Open on Monday, May 27.
Auger-Aliassime will enter the Claycourt Slam on the back of a third-round exit at the Italian Open. After struggling to find form for approximately two years, he finally seems to have regained his footing in 2024.
The Canadian reached the semifinals of the Open Sud de France, made it to the quarterfinals of the Bavarian International, and had an impressive run to the final of the Madrid Masters this year.
In Madrid, the former World No. 6 defeated the likes of Adrian Mannarino, Jiri Lehecka, and Casper Ruud, among others, but ultimately lost 6-4, 5-7, 5-7 to Andrey Rublev in the championship match. He will now step onto the red dirt of Roland Garros in pursuit of his first Grand Slam title.
Meanwhile, Nishioka had a run to the second round in Lyon before arriving in Paris, where he defeated Sebastian Fanselow but was ultimately eliminated by Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard.
The Japanese has participated in both the main tour and the Challenger Tour. However, he has struggled to make deep runs in any of the tournaments he has entered, with his best results being six second-round appearances in Dallas, Los Cabos, Mexican Open, Cagliari Challenger, Italian Open, and Lyon.
Similar to his opponent, Nishioka will also aim to secure his first Major at this year's French Open.

Auger-Aliassime has a 3-2 head-to-head advantage over Nishioka. The Canadian most recently defeated the Japanese at the Madrid Masters this year with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Yoshihito Nishioka prediction
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Yoshihito Nishioka arrive in Paris on the heels of contrasting results.
Auger Aliassime has shown flashes of brilliance this season but has struggled with consistency. Despite his powerful serve and strong movement, he's prone to unforced errors and his best result at the French Open is reaching the fourth round in 2022.
On the other hand, Nishioka, standing shorter than most of his opponents, compensates with exceptional court coverage and a strategic approach that keeps opponents on their toes. His unique style has led to some impressive wins, with his best result in Paris also being a fourth round appearance last year.
However, given Felix Auger Aliassime's better record overall and superior rank, he is expected to defeat his Japanese opponent easily and advance to the second round.
Pick: Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets.
