Jannik Sinner vs Richard Gasquet preview
Second seed Jannik Sinner will lock horns with French veteran Richard Gasquet in a highly anticipated second-round clash at the 2024 French Open on Wednesday, May 29.
Sinner entered Paris with an impeccable 28-2 match record this season and titles in Melbourne, Rotterdam and Miami. He kicked off his claycourt swing with a last-four finish in Monte-Carlo but was forced to retire mid-way through his Madrid Open campaign due to a hip injury.
In his first back match since the withdrawal, Sinner put on a show for everybody in attendance on Suzanne Lenglen as he brushed aside Christopher Eubaks 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Gasquet, meanwhile, walked into the French Open with just two wins in 10 matches played this year. He picked up his first win in Qatar against Alexander Shevchenko after four consecutive losses. His second win came on the red clay in Estoril as he saw off 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem with a 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Up against the tricky Borna Coric in what could have been his last home slam encounter, Gasquet turned back the clock with a vintage performance to oust the former World No. 12, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Jannik Sinner vs Richard Gasquet prediction
Jannik Sinner walks into his second-round clash against home favorite Richard Gasquet as the prime favorite to win and book his spot in Round 3.
Sinner has been in impeccable form so far this season and began his campaign in the French capital the same way. He looked dangerous on serve during his opener and was equally potent on the return, breaking his opponent's serve five times out of the 10 opportunities presented. He also showed no signs of fatigue or discomfort concerning the hip injury he suffered in Madrid a couple of weeks back.
Gasquet, on the other hand, may not have had the ideal season so far, but he walks into this clash with renewed confidence after his astonishing first-round win. He was extremely effective on his serve and approached the net often, aiding his style of play.
This challenge, however, will test the French veteran more than anything he has faced so far this season. He will be at his absolute best in every department if he is to challenge an in-form Sinner.
With the home faithful cheering him on vehemently from the back, an exciting encounter is on the cards between two incredible but contrasting ball-strikers.
Pick: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
