French Open: Clay Queen Justine Henin knocked out

Justine Henin

Four time French Open champion Justine Henin was knocked out from French Open 2010. She lost 2-6 6-1 6-4, to an inspired performance by Australian Samantha Stosur in the fourth round.

After wrapping the first set in just 32 minutes, Henin looked all set to face Serena in the quarters, but Stosur had other plans. She came back strongly in the second set winning 6-1. In the third set, Henin was broken in her third service game, but came back immediately to break back Stosur. However, Henin was broken in the ninth game and from then Stosur never looked back.

Even though Stosur was seeded higher, this loss of Henin came as a shock to critics as well as fans round the world as she was one of the favourites to lift the crown. With this loss, Henin’s 24 match winning streak on Roland Garros comes to an end. Also with this win, Stosur spoiled the prospect of mouthwatering clash between Clay Queen Henin and the power house Serena.

Stosur next faces Serena in the quarterfinals, who defeated Shahar Peer in straight sets 6-2 6-2. Henin left to a standing ovation from the crowd but with this early loss at her so-called ‘home’, it will be difficult for her to perform well in The Wimbledon.

Despite Henin’s loss, French Open is still wide open and anyone can win it from here. Though Serena looks favourite at this point of time, anything can happen with Jankovic and Petrova still around
