French Open - Roger Federer beats Fella in second Round in straight sets

Roger Federer defeated Allejandro Falla 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 after overcoming a sluggish start in the first set. Federer was back to his clinical best in the second and third sets to finish off the match in typical Federeresque fashion.

Federer looked somewhat out of touch in the opening set, but he gradually got back into his groove, not even allowing the interrupting rain to disturb his composure and fine form.

2010 has not been a remarkable year for Roger Federer on clay as he has lost three out of nine games he has played on this surface- but he had displayed excellent consistency and poise as he crushed Peter Luzcak in the first round raising hopes for his fans.

Federer’s second round tie against Falla promised to be another easy encounter as he had beaten Falla in straight sets in previous encounters between Federer and Falla. However Falla had other ideas and looked determined to compete and he had Roger Federer on the backfoot in the first set.

Falla was serving for the first set but he could not hold on and allowed the set to be extended to a tie break which Roger Federer won eventually. This rude wake up was enough for the defending French Open champion Roger Federer to step on the gas in the second set.

Federer won the second set with a double break advanatge but his first serve was not at its peak in this set as well. After this, there was a brief rain disruption which offerered Falla a last chance to recoup, but fortunately for Roger Federer, the rain break did not break his concentration and he won the final set 6-4. Now Federer will meet the victor of the encounter between Oliver Rochus and Julian Reister.

Well done Roger Federer ! Now, he needs to control the number of unforced errors he is committing at Roland Garros. Do you guys feel that Roger Federer will go on to defend his French Open crown this year ?
