The world number 2 proves yet again he is still the king of clay after beating his fellow countrymen Nicolas Almagro in three straight sets 7-6 7-6 6-4.
It was a very close game neck and neck right from the start where Almagro gave everything he had in his tank to defeat the mighty Nadal but he could not convert on big points.
Almagro was very aggressive and he had to because this was the only way to hang on with Nadal, his forehand was making it hard for for Nadal and pushing him far behind the baseline, but when it comes to big matches experience matters this was where Nicolas was lacking. Nadal top spin and rally was the difference taking the game away from Almagro who fought till the last point using his big forehand and playing the ball early not letting Nadal settle down. His strategy worked and got a break point in the second set 4-4 but fail to lead the game.
It took 1 hour 52 minutes to end the second set which both of them ended on a tie break where Nadal made it look so easy after all the rally in both the sets. The third set was a must win game for Almagro and he did try to keep the fight going but the king proved too good on his territory and won the game in 28 minutes 6-4.” It is a dream comeback after losing last year and I congratulate Almagro for playing some good temnnis” says Nadal.
The Spaniard will now play world number 22 Jurgen Melzer who defeated number 3 seed Novak Djokovic in a 5 set thriller where he won 3-6 2-6 6-2 7-6 6-4. It will be a tough semi final as Melzer has been playing some good tennis throughout the tournament but it seems the king is in getting closer to his crown and who can stop him!
