The 2025 Australian Open is officially underway, kicking off with a bang on Sunday, January 12. Big names such as Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka and 10-time champion Novak Djokovic hit the courts, setting the stage for what’s sure to be an exciting tournament.

While the action on the court is what we’re all here for, the players' outfits are just as much a part of the conversation. Whether they're bold, sleek, or a bit out there, tennis fashion always turns heads. And Day 2 of the Melbourne Slam certainly didn’t disappoint.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the standout outfits from Day 2 of the 2025 Australian Open—some that wowed us and others that left us scratching our heads.

#5 Worst - Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek started her Australian Open journey on a winning note, securing a 6-3, 6-4 victory over doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova. However, her outfit didn’t quite hit the mark, leaving much to be desired in the style department.

Swiatek sported an outfit by her sponsor On, co-owned by Roger Federer, that could best be described as polarizing. The sleeveless white top and matching shorts featured splashes of pink, yellow, and orange that awkwardly blended into the white base. The colors, while vibrant, didn’t complement each other well, making the overall look feel somewhat mismatched.

To make matters worse, the Pole paired her outfit with a plain white cap and sneakers, which did little to elevate the look. Given the charisma she brings to the court as a player, fans might have expected more flair from her ensemble. Unfortunately, this one fell flat for us.

#4 Best - Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka had a challenging start to her Australian Open campaign, needing three sets to get past Caroline Garcia in her opening round. The Japanese star managed to secure a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory, earning a spot in the second round.

What caught more attention than Naomi Osaka's fighting spirit was the joy she exuded in her sunflower-themed Nike outfit. Osaka, who has her own apparel line with the brand, wore a grey and black kit that blended seamlessly, with both colors complementing each other.

The four-time Grand Slam champion completed her look with braids in her hair and sunflower hair clips that added an extra layer of charm. Her shoes, a vibrant yellow with touches of black, featured sunflowers, tying the entire outfit together.

#3 Worst - Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz had an easy day at the office, breezing past his first-round opponent, Alexander Shevchenko. The Spaniard defeated the Kazakh 6-1, 7-5, 6-1, setting up a second-round clash with Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka.

Alcaraz, sponsored by Nike, wore a sleeveless teal top and matching shorts for his first-round match. The monotone color scheme didn’t quite hit the mark, though the addition of white panels on the sides offered a bit of contrast.

The yellow sneakers he wore also clashed with the rest of the outfit, creating an uneven look. Overall, it was a forgettable fashion moment for a player whose charisma on the court often steals the show.

#2 Best - Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff kicked off her Australian Open campaign with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over fellow American Sofia Kenin, setting up a second-round match with Jodie Burrage. The young American is aiming for her second Grand Slam title after her breakthrough win at the 2023 US Open.

Gauff had a sporty yet stylish look, courtesy of her sponsor New Balance. She wore an olive-green pleated skirt paired with a white, form-fitting tank top. The bright yellow wristbands added a bold pop of color to the outfit.

The 20-year-old's white sneakers tied the look together, offering a clean and cohesive finish. Overall, it was a functional and well-coordinated outfit, possibly the best of the tournament so far.

#1 Worst - Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic faced an early scare in the first round against Indian-American rising star Nishesh Basavareddy. Despite losing the opening set, the Serb managed to regroup and win the next three sets, securing a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Djokovic's outfit, much like his subpar performance in the first set, failed to make an impression. The bright blue shirt from his sponsor Lacoste featured a swirling white pattern across the chest, but the chaotic design didn’t do much to elevate his look.

The Serb paired the shirt with dark navy shorts and matching blue sneakers, resulting in a monochromatic ensemble that lacked contrast and felt uninspired. It’s no surprise, though, as his on-court outfits have remained largely stagnant in style over the past few years.
