The 2024 US Open concluded with a series of memorable moments on Day 14. From Jannik Sinner’s heartfelt victory speech to Taylor Fritz’s emotional reaction after his defeat, the final day was filled with drama and excitement.
Adding to it, a host of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes, graced the stands, making the men's singles final an unforgettable spectacle.
Here are three notable moments from the final day of the 2024 US Open:
#3. Jannik Sinner reflects on overcoming challenges on his path to US Open triumph
Jannik Sinner clinched his second Grand Slam title at the 2024 US Open, defeating 12th seed and home favorite Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the final.
On the path to his first US Open victory, the Italian overcame Mackenzie McDonald, Alex Michelsen, Christopher O'Connell, Tommy Paul, Daniil Medvedev, Jack Draper, and ultimately Fritz.
In his victory speech, Sinner was emotional as he dedicated his win to his aunt and discussed the challenges he faced due to her health issues.
"I love tennis. I practice a lot for this kind of stage, but I also realize that off the court, there is a life. I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt because she is really not feeling well health-wise. I don't know how much longer I still have her in my life," Sinner said.
"It's so nice that I can share positive moments still with her. She was a very important person for my life and she still is. If there would be a biggest wish, I would wish everyone the best health, but unfortunately, it's not possible," he added.
#2. Taylor Fritz gets emotional after losing maiden Grand Slam final
Taylor Fritz was in tears after suffering a straight-sets loss to top seed Jannik Sinner in the 2024 US Open final. He was the first American man to reach a Grand Slam singles final since Andy Roddick at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships.
On his way to the final, Fritz secured victories over Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini, Francisco Comesana, eighth seed Casper Ruud, fourth seed Alexander Zverev, and fellow American, 20th seed Frances Tiafoe.
After the defeat, Fritz was visibly emotional, with his head in his hands while sitting on the bench.
In his post-match on-court interview, Fritz thanked fans for their support and apologized to American fans for not being able to secure the victory against the Italian.
"It's been an amazing run and thank you to the fans for everything this week. Being an American at the US Open is just incredible, feeling love all week, so thank you so much," Fritz said.
"I know you've been waiting for a (American) champion for a long time, so I'm sorry I couldn't get it done this time, but I'm going to keep working and hopefully I'll get it done next time, thank you," he added.
#3. Celebrities in attendance during Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz's championship match
