Holger Rune, the Danish tennis professional, is the ATP World No. 12 in singles as of March 2025. Before turning pro in 2020, Rune won 13 titles in the ITF Circuit. Rune started the season on a top note by reaching the final of the 2025 Indian Wells Open by overpowering top seed Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tallon Griekspoor, thus becoming the youngest Scandinavian player to reach this stage. However, he lost to Jack Draper in the final by 6-2, 6-2.

After winning the Paris Masters in 2022, Rune became the first player to upset five of the top 10 players in the world in the same event since 1973 (outside of the ATP Finals). His career-high singles ranking (World No. 4) was achieved in August 2023. As of March 2025, Rune, the highest-ranked Danish player, has won four ATP titles. Furthermore, his best Grand Slam results include reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open in consecutive seasons (2022 and 2023) and the Wimbledon Championships in 2023.

Holger Rune's birthplace

Holger Rune was born in Gentofte, Denmark, on 29 April 2003.

Rune was born to Aneke Rune and Anders Nødskov in Gentofte, in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen. In a May 2023 ATP YouTube video named "Origins | Holger Rune," it was disclosed that his sister Alma, the family's first tennis player, was the reason he began playing the sport.

Alma said that her brother was devoted to the sport from a young age, a quality of Rune that is emphasized as the secret to his success in the 16-minute mini-documentary. Alma said, "We practiced a lot together; my mom would book a court, and we would just practice until it was dark in the evening." The documentary includes interviews with Rune's family, as well as his lifelong coach and former ATP pro, Lars Christensen, who began working with him at the age of seven. By the age of 13, he began training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.

Rune describes his obsession with tennis as, "I don't think about tennis 24/7, but I think about what's necessary for my tennis 24/7." His coach, Christensen, also echoed similar feelings, saying, "If you want to become the very best in the sport, you're never going to reach it if you don't have that drive."
