Cameron Norrie vs Lorenzo Songeo preview
The 2025 Hong Kong Open will feature a second-round clash between Great Britain's Cameron Norrie and Italy's Lorenzo Sonego on January 1. For Norrie, 2025 would be a comeback season as injuries in 2024 marred the Brit. However, the former Wimbledon semi-finalist had a decent end to the season, as he reached the final of the Moselle Open, losing to Benjamin Bonzi.
The former World No. 8 has commenced his 2025 season at the Hong Kong Open. In his first round, the left-handed Brit beat Learner Tien of the USA, 6-3, 7-5. Norrie's tennis looked good, as he racked up an impressive tally of 11 aces and 27 winners in the two sets.
Lorenzo Sonego had an underwhelming 2024 season. The Italian did win a title at the Winston-Salem Open, but his overall season record was 20-29.
However, the former World No. 21 has started his 2025 season on a bright note, causing an upset in his very first match. He secured an impressive straight-set victory over sixth-seeded Brandon Nakashima in the first round of the Hong Kong Open. The Italian did not face a single break point in the match and dropped just four points on his first serve, winning 84 percent of his service points.

Cameron Norrie vs Lorenzo Songeo prediction
Norrie has an established resume on hard courts, as the Brit has reached nine career finals on the surface. However, the last hard-court title for the former Top-10 player came in 2022 when he won the Delray Beach Open, overcoming Reilly Opelka in the final.
Last year's Winston-Salem title was the second hard-court title for Lorenzo Sonego. The Italian had previously won the 2022 Moselle Open, defeating Alexander Bublik in the final.
In their first-round matches at the ongoing Hong Kong Open, Norrie and Sonego made 29 and 20 unforced errors, respectively. However, given that these were the first matches of the season for them, a bit of rustiness could be there. Norrie is the favorite to win because of his experience of winning on hard courts and being a former Top 10 player.
