World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has resumed training after withdrawing from the 2023 Miami Open due to a rib injury.
Swiatek was attempting to defend her titles in Indian Wells and Miami, as well as achieve the Sunshine Double for the second time in her career. However, her run was cut short in the Indian Wells semifinals by Elena Rybakina, and she later announced her withdrawal from the Miami Open due to a rib injury.
Iga Swiatek recently took to Twitter to share that she is already preparing for a comeback, and she uploaded a photo of herself on an exercise cycle.
"Back at it. Powrót do roboty," Swiatek wrote.
"I will keep you updated about where I play next" - Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek stated in her withdrawal speech that while competing in the Qatar Open in Doha, which she won, she was dealing with a severe cough. She battled through the discomfort for the tournament, but it resulted in her ribs being injured.
After much thought, the 21-year-old decided to take a break and withdraw from the Miami Open and the Billie Jean King Cup for a better recovery.
"You know that in and after Doha I was struggling with a strong infection. I was allowed to play, but a strong episode of tough cough led to a rib injury. We were trying to handle it and continue to play as long as it was safe for me," Swiatek wrote on Twitter.
"We were analyzing the data in the last days and my doctor prepared my diagnosis. Unfortunately, I'm still feeling a lot of discomfort and pain and I can't compete. I need to take a break to recover and I have to pull out of the Miami Open and Billie Jean King Cup," she added.
The World No. 1 then assured her fans that she will keep them updated about which tournament she will appear in next.
"I will keep you updated about where I play next, because it depends on my process of recovering and the recommendation of my medical team. I have the best team behind me, we only need some time to deal with the injury," Iga Swiatek wrote.
"It's a truly difficult call to not play in Miami and BJKC, but health is the most important. I'm grateful this is the first health issue in a long time and I was able to compete in perfect shape for so long, but that's sports, it happens sometimes, without our control... Time to accept it and get well as soon as possible," she added.
