Andy Murray vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry preview
World No. 55 Andy Murray will open his campaign at Indian Wells against Chile Open finalist Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Murray - who reached the final at the event in 2009 - is coming off a run to the final in Doha, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the summit clash. Before that, the 35-year-old had negotiated four straight three-set matches, saving multiple match points along the way, to reach his first ATP final since June last year.
The three-time Grand Slam winner - 6-3 in 2023 - had opened his campaign with an opening-round loss at the Adelaide International 1 before reaching the Australian Open third round.
Meanwhile, the 61st-ranked Etcheverry is coming off his first final on the ATP Tour at the Chile Open in Santiago last week, where he lost in three sets to Nicolas Jarry. That dropped him to 7-6 on the season.
Earlier this season, the 23-year-old Argentine made the quarterfinals at the Argentina Open, but he now needs to make a quick transition to hardcourt against a seasoned campaigner.

Andy Murray vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry prediction
On paper, the contest looks like a mismatch, as Murray is a 46-time titlist - including three Grand Slam titles - and has won over 700 matches. Etcheverry, on the other hand, has just started out, winning only 11 of his 33 matches since his ATP Tour debut at Delray Beach in 2021.
Murray is a good hardcourt player, winning 33 titles and nearly 500 matches on the surface. He is a good mover, although his movement is not the same as it was before his hip surgery five years earlier.
The Scot pulled out of the Dubai Tennis Championships last week, possibly because of exertion.
However, he should be raring to go against his Argentine opponent, who has no real pedigree on hardcourts.
Prediction: Murray in straight sets
