Hubert Hurkacz vs Tommy Paul preview
Ninth seed Hubert Hurkacz will take on 17th seed Tommy Paul on Monday (March 13) for a place in the fourth round at Indian Wells.
World No. 11 Hurkacz is off to a 13-5 start to the year, opening his campaign in the Californian desert with a three-set win over Alexei Popyrin. With the win, he improved to 10-3 at Indian Wells. Earlier, the 26-year-old made the quarterfinals in Dubai (lost to Novak Djokovic), having won his first title of the year in Marseille a week earlier.
Hurkacz had opened his season with two wins and as many losses at the inaugural United Cup before making the fourth round at the Australian Open, where he lost to Sebastian Korda in a fifth-set tiebreak.
Meanwhile, World No. 19 Paul improved to 13-4 in 2023 with a three-set win over Jan-Lennard Struff. The 25-year-old is coming off a final run at Acapulco last week, losing to Alex de Minaur, having made the quarterfinals at Dallas.
Paul had opened his season with a run to his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open, where he lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets. The American has reached at least the third round in all three previous main draw appearances at Indian Wells, where he holds a 6-2 record. Paul is looking to reach the fourth round for the first time since he first did so in 2021.

Hubert Hurkacz vs Tommy Paul prediction
Both Hurkacz and Paul have similar game styles, as they like to dominate opponents from the back of the court.
This is a close matchup to call, as both players play their best tennis on hard courts. However, Paul could edge this one as he's coming off his first ATP 500 final last week.
Prediction: Paul in three sets
