Hailing from Canada, Leylah Fernandez is an aspiring, young, talented player who has garnered the attention of fans globally with her performance. She has won three WTA singles titles to date, including the 2023 Hong Kong Open and the 2022 and 2021 Monterrey Open.

She reached her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal at the 2023 Guadalajara Open, where she defeated Sofia Kenin. She also reached the quarterfinals of the same tournament in the doubles category.

Fernandez’s best grand performance comes at the 2021 US Open where she reached the final, losing to Emma Raducanu. She has competed in various team events in her career. She helped Canada lift the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup.

Residing in Miami, Leylah is a southpaw with a unique game-style. She won the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award for Canadian Female Athlete of the Year in 2021. Upon reaching her maiden major final in New York, she joined an elite list of Canadians who have reached a Grand Slam final in singles - Eugenia Bouchard, Bianca Andreescu and Milos Raonic.

Fernandez ended the last season by finishing semifinalist at the 2024 Hong Kong Open, losing to Diana Shniader. She advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, defeating Elena Rybakina and Diana Shnaider en route. In the doubles category, she reached the final with Yulia Putintseva, where they lost to Asia Muhammad and Erin Routliffe in a tie-break decider. At the home tournament in the Canadian Open, she and her sister Bianca Fernandez lost to the duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the semifinals.

Bianca Fernandez is the younger sister of Leylah Fernandez. Fernandez is almost two years older than Bianca Fernandez. Incidentally, they both chose to become tennis players and ended up going pro. They also have another sister, who is older than them. Her name is Jodeci, and she lives in Ohio with her husband.

The 20-year-old Bianca made her WTA debut at the 2022 Monterrey Open in a doubles event along with her elder sister, Leylah Fernandez. She won her first WTA match at the 2022 Canadian Open in a doubles event where she defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo and Kirsten Flipkens in the first round with Leylah Fernandez.

Leylah and Bianca Fernandez were born in Montreal, Quebec to Jorge and Irene Fernandez. Interestingly, neither of their parents are of full Canadian descent. Her father Jorge is a former professional football player from Ecuador, and her mother Irene is a Filipino-Canadian. As a matter of fact, Jorge has been coaching them since a very young age, and continues to do so.

Born into a multicultural family, the children are fluent in English, Spanish, and French. Leylah and Bianca Fernandez's father moved from Ecuador to Canada at the age of 14. When Leylah Fernandez was 12 years old, the family moved to Florida. Meanwhile, their third and eldest sister Jodeci stays separately in Ohio with her husband Jacques.

Bianca Jolie Fernandez, just like her sister Leylah Fernandez, is a professional tennis player on the WTA circuit. She made her WTA debut in doubles at the 2022 Monterrey Open alongside her sister. Her first WTA win came at the 2022 Canadian Open in doubles alongside her sister, where the pair beat Kirsten Flipkens and Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round.

In the 2023 edition of her home tournament in Montreal, Bianca lost in straight sets to Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko.
