Ivo Karlovic became only the second man to hit 10,000 aces during his hard fought 7-6 (1), 7-6 (1) win over Milos Raonic on Tuesday. His compatriot Goran Ivanisevic is ahead of him with 10,183 career aces.
"It was only 22 aces," said Karlovic, drawing laughter from journalists.
The big Croat hit 22 aces and took his career tally to 10,004 aces and counting. He also said Ivanisevic’s record was in his sights.
“I mean, of course, that is my goal,” Karlovic said. “I would hope that it will be this year. If not, it's OK, also if it's next year. Hopefully I will be able to do it, be healthy enough, and hopefully it will be soon.”
Ivanisevic was known for his impressive serves that bailed him out numerous times. The 43-year-old won his only Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2001. He needed 895 matches to get to 10,183 aces, while Karlovic is much quicker to get to the milestone in only 527 matches.
Karlovic will play either Richard Gasquet or Leonardo Mayer next.
