James Duckworth is a professional tennis player from Australia who was born on January 21, 1992. He had an outstanding junior career, winning three titles and making it to the 2010 French Open boy’s singles semifinals.

Duckworth turned professional in 2010 and made his ATP debut at the Sydney Open as a wildcard. He lost in the first round 1–6, 3–6 to fellow Australian Marinko Matosevic Duckworth achieved his career-high ATP singles ranking of 46 on January 31, 2022, and a career-high doubles ranking of No. 185 on February 10, 2020. As of January 2024, he is ranked No. 116 in singles by the ATP.

Since 2012, the 31-year-old's career has been hampered by nine surgeries and is yet to win an ATP title. According to the ATP website, Duckworth’s favorite surface is grass, and his favorite tournament is the Australian Open.

He won 12 ATP doubles titles and one singles title. He defeated Croatian Mario Ancic in straight sets to win the Tennis Channel Open in 2005. At nearly 34 years old, Arthurs became the oldest player in history to win his first ATP singles title.

In terms of the Davis Cup, he is an Australian hero, having won numerous doubles rubbers for his country. Over the course of his career, Arthurs has triumphed over six players who have held the top ranking in the world — Pete Sampras, Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Patrick Rafter, Andy Roddick and Gustavo Kuerten.

Additionally, he defeated another former number one, Stefan Edberg, in a grass-court money tournament in England. At the time, Arthurs' singles ranking was No. 1100, while Edberg's was ranked No. 2, meaning that the margin between the winner and loser on the Tour that year was one of the largest.
