World No. 151 Sonay Kartal will face No. 136 Rebecca Sramkova in the final of the 2024 Jasmin Open on Sunday, September 15, at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Kartal began her campaign in Monastir in the qualifiers. Seeded fifth, she defeated Ranim Rassil and Mariam Bolkvadze to secure a berth in the main draw. In the first round of the main draw, she scripted a remarkable victory over fifth seed Jaqueline Cristian, coming back from a set down to seal a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win.

Kartal then dispatched Mai Hontama in the second rounding, dropping just two games en route a 6-2, 6-2 route. She continued her strong performance in the quarterfinals by defeating fellow qualifier Yulia Starodubtseva with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 straight-sets victory. In the semifinals, she was leading 5-1 against Eva Lys when the German was forced to retire due to illness, awarding Kartal a safe passage to the final.

Sramkova also began her Monastir campaign with an impressive comeback victory, defeating Elsa Jacquemot in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. She then caused an upset in the subsequent round, beating second seed Clara Burel 7-6 (4), 7-5 in a scrappy encounter.

Sramkova notched her second comeback win from a set down in the quarterfinals, seeing off Sara Sorribes Tormo with a score of 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5. She returned to her dominating best against seventh seed Lucia Bronzetti in the semifinals, sealing a routine 6-3, 6-4 victory.

In a clash between two first-time WTA tour finalists, fans can expect a thrilling contest given their rich vein of form recently.

Kartal has been in excellent shape all week in Monastir, dropping just one set out of a total of 11. She has excelled from the baseline, dictating play in long rallies and winning a majority of them. Although her serving hasn’t been the strongest, her solid return game has consistently kept her ahead.

In contrast, Sramkova has been pushed to the limit twice but has shown remarkable mental fortitude to comeback on both occasions. Her serving has been exceptional throughout the week, and she won an impressive 91% of points behind her first serve in her previous match. Additionally, she has been highly effective at the net whenever she has come forward.

Neither player has featured much on tour this season. The 22-year-old Kartal has played just 7 matches but has won 6 of them. Her performance on the ITF circuit has been equally impressive, with five titles already secured this year.

Sramkova, on the other hand, has a 10-6 record on the WTA tour this year, with her best result being a quarterfinal finish in Hungary. She also made her debut in the WTA top 100 earlier this year.

Sramkova's experience and superior record on hardcourts this year and throughout her career could give her the edge in this matchup, potentially leading her to her first WTA title.

Pick: Sramkova in three sets.
