Jessica Pegula vs Olga Danilovic preview
Seventh seed Jessica Pegula will face Olga Danilovic in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open on Friday, January 17.
Pegula's 2025 season commenced at Adelaide International. The top seed reached the final of the WTA 500 event without dropping a set. However, she was denied the title by compatriot Madison Keys, who won the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
At the Melbourne Major, Pegula started strong with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-0 first-round win against Maya Joint. She then registered her first career win against second-round opponent Elise Mertens, 6-4, 6-2. With this result, the American has already improved her performance from last year when she exited the tournament in the second round.
Meanwhile, Danilovic's 2025 season started on a bitter note. Following her title win at the 2024 Guangzhou Open in October, the Serbian suffered a first-round exit at Hobart International last week. She lost 2-6, 3-6 to eventual semifinalist Maya Joint.
Danilovic has seemingly put behind her worries in Hobart as she registered a commanding 6-4, 6-4 win against Arantxa Rus to open her Melbourne Major campaign. She then stunned World No. 21 Liudmila Samsonova with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the second round.
Jessica Pegula vs Olga Danilovic head-to-head
This will be their first meeting on the tour. Hence, the head-to-head stands at 0-0. However, the duo clashed once at the ITF level. Pegula got the better of the Serbian, winning the 2018 ITF USA 02A first-round clash, 6-1, 6-3.

Jessica Pegula vs Olga Danilovic prediction
Pegula has been reliable so far in the hardcourts of Melbourne. She has barely struggled to hold her serve as she was broken just once in the previous rounds. The American's win percentage in Melbourne has improved to 74 with her latest win over Mertens.
Danilovic's overall play at the Australian Open has been impressive so far. She has been clinical with her serves, hitting eight aces across the two matches. The Serbian is also more match-fit than Pegula, who has recently recovered from a knee injury.
However, Jessica Pegula has the advantage when it comes to overall skill and experience. It will not be a straight-forward affair but the American is expected to come out on top and reach the fourth round.
Pick: Pegula to win in three sets.
