World No.77 Joao Sousa of Portugal stunned top seeded and world no. 4 David Ferrer 6-2, 7-6 to reach semi final of ATP 250 Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur. Joao took 1 hour and 38 minutes to achieved his biggest win of the career. He recorded a 100% break point win against his superior opponent.
Now,he will fight against Jurgen Melzer in the semifinals. Earlier, 4th seeded Melzer defeated Federico Delbonis 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter final .
In another quarterfinal match, World NO. 10 Stanislas Wawrinka kept his calm to overcome the challenge of no. 6 seed Dmitry Tursonov 2-6, 6-3, 7-6. The no. 2 seed player took 2 hour and 4 minute to win the match.
In an another quarter final, No. 5 seed Julien Benneteau defeated Adrian Mannarino in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. He will now face Wawrinka in the second semifinal of the tournament tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, India’ Somdev Dev Barman and his South African partner Rik De Voest crashed out from the tournament after losing their semi final tie against Pablo Cuevas and Horacio Zeballos by 6-0, 2-6, 7-10.
