Juan Martin Del Potro plays a backhand in his win over Fabio Fognini in the Round of 16 of Sydney International

Juan Martin Del Potro beat top seed Fabio Fognini 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals of the Sydney International. Fognini dictated most of the rallies in the early goings of the match and took the set with a solitary break of serve.

The 2009 U.S Open champion bounced back in style as he kept points short through winners on both sides of the court. Del Potro will next face Mikhail Kukushkin who got the better of Pablo Cuevas 7-5, 7-5 after saving six break points.

Simone Bollelli upset second seed David Goffin 6-2, 6-2 to progress to the last eight. The Italian will take on Viktor Troicki who beat Pablo Andujar 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 for a spot in the last eight.
