Justine Henin reaches Stuttgart final

Former World Champion Justin Henin of Belgium has reached the final of Sttutgart’s WTA tour by defeating Shahar Peer of Israel by 6-3, 6-2 at the Porsche Grand Prix on Saturday. Henin who has revoked her retirement in January showed her potential when she won the match in just 74 minutes. Henin has earlier won the tournament in 2007 and has reached to the finals of the event in 2001 and 2003.

Henin who entered the tournament through wildcard played aggressively in the match though she lost her first match point when she misjudged Peer’s shot and took a wrong step thus falling on the red clay. But, Henin did not lose her focus and fired a backhand winner down the line to capture the next match point. She played 28 winners in the game, more than Peer’s. Peer was only able to hit half of the winners compared to Henin. These winners ensured Henin’s victory. Henin who has retired in May 2008 and came back in January this year was a runner-up in Australian Open and at Brisbane.

Henin who will play her 60th WTA final will now face Samantha Stosur of Australia. Stosur defeated Anna Lapushchenkova by 7-5, 6-3 to enter the final. Anna has taken lead in the game over Stosur in the first set by 5-2 but she lost the match as Stosur did not lose concentration and played with great energy.

Henin who is playing the first clay tournament in two years is also looking forward to win her fifth French Open title next month at Ronald Garros.
