India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman jumped five places to be ranked 135th in the latest ATP rankings. The Indian had recently reached the semi-finals of the ATP Nottingham challenger tournament, where he lost to American Steve Johnson 3-6, 4-6.

Earlier, Somdev surged forty eights places following a semi-final finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy as well as a second round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

At the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger, Somdev lost to Argentina’s 125th ranked Federico Delbonis 4-6, 0-6 in the semi-finals.

Somdev also reached the second round of the French Open after defeating Spain’s 145th ranked Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and had lost to world number three Roger Federer. The Indian had made the main draw after getting the better of 113th ranked American Wayne Odesnik in the final qualifying tie.

He is on a comeback trail after a lingering shoulder injury consigned him to the sidelines for more than nine months in 2012.

Somdev has been regularly taking part in ATP events only since late last year. He had reached a career-high ATP ranking of 62 in July 2011.

Earlier this year, he took on world number one Novak Djokovic in the third round of the Miami Masters and lost in straight sets to the Serb.

Saketh Myneni, who recently became the country’s second highest ranked singles player, advanced twenty two spots to be placed 279th.

The 25-year-old had won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures recently.

Among the other Indian men’s singles players, Prakash Amritraj, son of legendary Vijay Amritraj, dropped four spots to 312th.

N Sriram Balaj, who won the Chennai ITF Futures recently, moved up thirteen places to be ranked 337th while Sanam Singh dropped one place to be ranked 339th.

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who recently won the Coimbatore ITF Futures, jumped twenty two places to occupy the 378th position.

Yuki Bhambri is placed 415th. Vishnu Vardhan slipped seventy places to 491.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina climbed sixty eight spots to be placed 362nd. She continues to be the country’s highest ranked women’s singles player
