Latest ATP Rankings: Somdev falls to 129th spot, Ankita climbs to 355th spot

India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman dropped a notch to be placed 129th in the latest ATP rankings.

The Indian, who did exceedingly well to reach the third round of the ongoing ATP Citi Open, had earlier won the recent McDonald’s mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Tennis Championships.

Somdev had also earlier reached the semi-finals of the ATP Winnetka Challenger tennis tournament, where he lost to 102nd ranked American Jack Sock 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (5).

He also reached the semi-finals of the ATP Nottingham challenger tournament. He also achieved a semi-final finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy as well as a second-round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

Somdev also reached the second round of the French Open after defeating Spain’s 145th ranked Pablo Carreno-Busta and had lost to world number three Roger Federer.

The Tripura-born player is on a comeback trail after a lingering shoulder injury consigned him to the sidelines for more than nine months in 2012.

Earlier this year, he took on world number one Novak Djokovic in the third round of the Miami Masters and lost in straight sets to the Serb.

Among the other Indians, Saketh Myneni, who recently became the country’s second highest ranked singles player, slipped nine spots to be placed 272nd.

It may be worth recalling that the 25-year-old had won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures this year.

Prakash Amritraj, son of legendary Vijay Amritraj, jumped nine places to be placed 265th.

Sanam Singh fell eight places to be ranked 317th .

N Sriram Balaj, who won the Chennai ITF Futures this year, advances two spots to occupy the 327th spot.

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who recently won the Coimbatore ITF Futures climbed six spots to occupy the 368th spot.

Yuki Bhambri slumped eighty nine places to be ranked 548th.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina climbed eighteen places to be at 355th spot.

Rishika Sunkara jumped twenty spots to be ranked 518th.

Nidhu Chilumula surged twenty one places to be ranked 600.
