India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman moved up a notch to 130th in the latest ATP rankings.

The Indian, who did exceedingly well to reach the summit clash of the McDonald’s Mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Championships, had also recently reached the semi-finals of the ATP Winnetka Challenger, where he lost to 102nd ranked American Jack Sock 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (5).

He had earlier reached the semi-finals of the ATP Nottingham challenger tournament. He also achieved a semi-final finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy as well as a second round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

Somdev reached the second round of the French Open after defeating Spain’s 145th ranked Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and had lost to world number three Roger Federer.

The Indian had made the main draw after getting the better of 113th ranked American Wayne Odesnik in the final qualifying tie.

He is on a comeback trail after a lingering shoulder injury consigned him to the sidelines for more than nine months in 2012.

Somdev has been regularly taking part in ATP events only since late last year. He had reached a career-high ATP ranking of 62 in July 2011.

Earlier this year, he took on world number one Novak Djokovic in the third round of the Miami Masters and lost in straight sets to the Serb.

Saketh Myneni, who recently became the country’s second highest ranked singles player, advanced one spot to be placed 265th. The 25-year-old had won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures this year.

Prakash Amritraj, son of legendary Vijay Amritraj, surged 33 spots to be placed 275th, following a big win over a higher ranked player in the recent Hall of Fame tennis championships.

N Sriram Balaj, who won the Chennai ITF Futures recently, moved up two places to be ranked 329th, while Sanam Singh also advanced two places to be placed 336th.

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who recently won the Coimbatore ITF Futures moved up one spot to occupy the 372nd spot.

Yuki Bhambri fell one spot to be ranked 414th.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina slipped ten places to be ranked 373rd. Rishika Sunkara dropped five places to be ranked 533rd.

Prerna Bhambri – cousin of Ankita and Sanaa Bhambri – plunged 27 spots to 609.
