The Laver Cup is an international men's team tennis event held annually since 2017 between Team Europe and Team World. The tournament is played on indoor hard courts and is usually held two weeks after the US Open. The location varies from year to year between cities in Europe and other parts of the world.
The Laver Cup was officially sanctioned by the ATP Tour in May 2019. The Laver Cup event matches differ from standard ATP Tour 3-set matches in that if the match is tied after two sets, a 10-point "match tiebreak" is played instead of the deciding final set.
The sixth Laver Cup will be held in 2023 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, from September 22 to September 24. After winning the Laver Cup for the first time, Team World will be looking to defend their title.
Team World Laver Cup Record
Since the beginning of the Laver Cup tournament in 2017, Team World has always been on the losing end, besides their last year’s run, when Frances Tiafoe won the 2022 Laver Cup for Team World, edging Team Europe's Stefanos Tsitsipas 1-6, 7-6 (11), 10-8 and leading his team to a 13-8 triumph.
John McEnroe's team trailed four-time champions Team Europe 4-8 coming into the final day of the event in London. On the third day, with each win counting three points, Team World reversed the tables in an incredible way to win the Laver Cup for the first time.
John McEnroe, the previous and current captain, said during the 2022 trophy ceremony, “I don’t want to talk too much because I want the party to begin very soon. But I want to thank my players. They brought the energy, belief and intensity. I want to especially thank my brother Patrick, my righthand mind.”
