Number seven seeds Leander Paes and Martina Hingis cruised into the semifinals of Wimbledon 2015, after beating Marcin Matkowski of Poland and Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Indo-Swiss pair converted 73% of their first serves as compared to their opponents’ 61. Perhaps even more importantly, Paes and Hingis made just two unforced errors all match as compared to Matkowski and Vesnina’s six, thus ensuring that they didn’t give away any free points.
Paes and Hingis broke serve twice in the first set to wrap it up 6-2, winning 24 points as compared to the opponents’ 16.
In the second set, Paes and Hingis converted 85% of their first serves as compared to Matkowski and Vesnina’s 50%. And once again, the duo outscored their opponents in the number of unforced errors and winners. The Indo-Swiss pair won 25 points as compared to their opponents’ 11 in the second frame, coasting to a comfortable 6-1 scoreline.
Paes and Hingis will now play Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the semifinals tomorrow.
