Lisicki sets world record at Aegon Classic

The grass court specialist beat her Swiss opponent Belinda Bencic 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in their second-round game at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham, and in doing so broke the existing world record for most aces in a women’s singles match.

With 16 aces in the first set and 11 in the second, Lisicki set a record of 27 – 3 more than the existing world record of 24, held jointly by World No. 1 Serena Williams and Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.

Fresh on the heels of the victory and record, Lisicki has Wimbledon to look forward to. The grass tournament begins on the 29^th of June, 2015, and Lisicki was eliminated in the quarter finals of last year’s tournament.
