Liudmila Samsonova is a Russian tennis player with notable success in the singles and doubles circuit. She is ranked as high as No. 12 in singles and No. 40 in doubles, which she achieved in February 2023 and June 2023, respectively. Her powerful two-handed backhand and aggressive playing style have helped her win five titles in singles. She has won two WTA doubles titles, including the 2024 Korea Open with Nicole Melichar Martinez.

Samsonova advanced to back-to-back quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Open and the Canadian Open, losing to Aryna Sabalenka and Diana Shnaider, respectively. She registered a win against Bianca Andreescu to win the 2024 Rosmalen Open. Her best Grand Slam performances in singles and doubles include reaching the fourth round of the 2024 US Open and the quarterfinals of the 2023 French Open, respectively. She won the Most Valuable Player award in 2021 after helping Russia win the Billie Jean King Cup.

Who is Liudmila Samsonova's Coach?

Danilo Pizzorno is the long-time coach of Liudmila Samsonova, who has been working for more than seven years. With the training of Pizzorno, Samsonova finished finalist in two WTA 1000 titles along with a career-high ranking of No. 12. During her interview with WTA in 2022, she shared that all her improvements in her playing style are because of her coach Pizzorno. She said that her coach is a tactical genius with a high level of experience in tennis. Samsonova added that Pizzorno helped her hit technical shots, including her backhand and forehand shots. She recalled during the interview that she started working with Pizzorno in 2017 at the Piatti Academy.

Pizzorno initially worked as a video analyst with former tennis player Ivan Ljubicic. He is currently the head of the Sports Trend Video Analysis Centre Melzo, Rowing Club Baldesio Cremona. He is also associated with Press Sporting Turin and Accademia Tennis Apuano. He became one of the finest video analysts after working at the Professional PTR and National FIT in 1990. From 2005 to 2018, he worked at the Piatti Tennis Academy as a video analyst.

Later from 2009 to 2011, he joined the Federal Technical Center of Tirrenia as a video analyst. Pizzorno is known for analyzing more than 20 professional players, including Richard Gasquet, Novak Djokovic, Jasmine Paolini, and Andreas Sepi. Other players analyzed by Pizzorno include Borna Coric, Milos Raonic, Fabio Fognini, and Simone Bolelli. Besides Pizzorno, Liudmila Samsonova's coaching team includes Alessandro Dumitrache. The 32-year-old is a former professional tennis player who switched to tennis coaching after failing to achieve success as a player. Dumitrache is also associated with sports brand Asics.
