One of only three players to have played in all nine Masters 1000 finals (Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal being the others), Roger Federer has had a memorable Masters 1000 career.
The 42nd of 68 different players to have won a Masters 1000 title, Federer was thwarted in his first Masters final by Andre Agassi at 2002 Miami. But the Swiss would not be denied a breakthrough for long as he prevailed over Marat Safin the following month on the clay of Hamburg.
Federer is one of the same trio of players who have played in all nine Masters finals, to register 300 or more Masters 1000 match wins. Federer (378) was recently surpassed by Nadal (381) for most match wins at this level, but the Swiss can take back the outright lead with a run to the final at 2019 Cincinnati.
Federer is one of five players (Agassi, Djokovic, Nadal and Andy Murray) to have won a Masters 1000 title at seven different tournaments. And along with Nadal, he is one of only two players to contest 50 Masters 1000 title matches.
The Swiss is one of three players to have won nine consecutive Masters 1000 finals. Djokovic (12) and Nadal (9) are the only players to have accomplished the same.
Federer has the longest span (17 years) between his first (2002 Hamburg) and latest Masters 1000 titles (2019 Miami) for any player.
Along with Nadal and Djokovic, Federer is the only other player to have contested five Masters 1000 finals at as many Masters 1000 tournaments.
Federer has won a Masters 1000 title in 13 different seasons, a feat surpassed only by Nadal (15), and is the only player to lose three consecutive finals at a tournament against the same opponent (Nadal; Monte Carlo 2006-08).
The players Federer has defeated most often in a Masters 1000 final are Nadal (five wins) followed by Djokovic (three), with two wins apiece against six other players. However Nadal has also inflicted the most pain on Federer in Masters 1000 finals, thwarting the Swiss on no fewer than seven occasions.
Federer's 22 titles on hardcourt at a Masters 1000 is the most on the surface, after Djokovic (24).
